Explore The J. Paul Getty Villa Museum
Serving as a second campus for the J. Paul Getty Museum, commonly known as the Getty, the Getty Villa is situated on the eastern end of the Malibu coastline. An educational museum and center focused on the culture and art of Ancient Greece, Etruria, and Rome, it houses a collection of over 44,000 Roman, Greek, and Etruscan antiquities, dating from 6,500 BC to 400 AD.
The Getty Villa has four different gardens made up of plants native to the Mediterranean, which were thought to be originally cultivated by the Ancient Romans. The largest of the gardens is known as the Outer Peristyle and is an exact proportional replica of the garden located at Villa dei Papiri. Along with traditional Roman landscaping, the garden features a 220-foot pool at the center.
Whether you’re interested in history, botany, or just looking for a beautiful place to explore, the Getty Villa should be on your list. The best part? Admission is free to the general public; however, it does require a timed-entry reservation.
